The Material Advantage Student Program is the premier membership option for students who want to make the most of their Materials Engineering experience. The UConn Material Advantage chapter is among the most active and successful chapters nationwide. The chapter won the prestigious “Chapter of Excellence” award in the last three years (2008-2010) and in addition won the “World Materials Day Outreach” award each of the last eight years.
Our chapter activities focus on outreach and membership development. Workshops on application writing or panel discussions on materials career options with professional materials engineers are examples of recent membership development activities. Our chapter has been very active in local outreach for K-12 students and in UConn Open Houses. The chapter is furthermore instrumental for the ASM Materials Camps that take place annually in April at the Institute of Materials Science, UConn.
